Biography

Ciara Smyth is a visual artist based in Limerick City, Ireland. Currently a student of Limerick School of art and design of Sculpture and Combined media.

Smyth works with a variety of materials and processes such as Photography, video, drawing, sculpture, installation, performance and painting. She combines mixed media throughout her work.

 

Artist Statement.

Ciara Smyth’s work is a response to the concepts of human life and the content revolving the human mind. She studies the functionality, theories and beliefs surrounding the human psyche and its aim to control the response to the environment.

Her ongoing investigation into the ways in which the mind works and is controlled is the basis for all her work.

Exploring concepts that relate to the environmental impact on daily human life allows her work to connect the mysteries of the psyche and the Universe.

Her exploration of these concepts is manifested through process such as video, photography, performance, and drawing. Central to these topics and theories her materials play a major role in the method she uses to portray her view on the mind.

Topics of philosophy such as the ancient Chinese philosophy of Yin Yang contributes to her investigation into the depths of human life. She continues to apply and develop these theories to all that is involved in the uncanny and the mystery of the universe
